If the ad performs well, then you may consider a national ad buy in the same publication.
Similarly, before purchasing space in well-established publications, try advertising in smaller or newer ones that reach out to the same target market. Pilot publications in particular may offer you a great deal as they're looking to satisfy new advertisers to support the launch of their new publication.
